Paul Cathro

Tāmaki Makaurau-based musician Paul Cathro grew up in Dunedin, where he was involved in bands such as Biff Merchants & Alizarin Lizard before starting Ha the Unclear with his brother Michael. Though he is best known for his work with Ha the Unclear, Cathro has regularly released music as a solo artist. His second full length album ‘Catapult’, (first album Head First Into Solid Ground released in 2016) is a collection of 11 quirky power pop anthems. Two singles have been released to date: Distance in November 2024 (which made the 95bfm top 10 twice) and No Life on Mars in March 2025. Paul Cathro is joined by Joshua Worthington-Church (Princess Chelsea, Exploding Rainbow Orchestra) on bass, Charmain Keay (APO) on violin and Jamie Hannah (Spawts, Two Cartoons) on drums. Together, they deliver a high-energy sound that blends high energy guitar driven power pop.
